Achieving the maximum productivity at the office can be particularly challenging. However, there are certain things that can make you reach higher levels of motivation with ease. Some of which include implementing the Zen principles in your working environment. Whether you’re conducting your business from your home office, or you are working in a big office space, there are certain Zen-oriented steps you can take to make time spent at work much more relaxed and stress-free, which will, in turn, do wonders for your productivity. So, let’s check them out.
Home office
When *decorating a home office , the only thing that really matters is that you strive to create an environment you personally will find motivating and appealing. You will be the only person working there, so instead of blindly following certain design trends, try to create something that works for you.
A desk as the centre of the room
According to Feng Shui, your office desk is the base of your office as it is the place where all the work gets done. So, the desk needs to be large enough to hold all the essentials, plus a few carefully chosen decorative pieces, such as a plant, a framed photo that holds a special meaning to you and a scented candle, for example. You should really make sure that the desk is the right size (see if you can reach all corners comfortably from where you’re sitting – if not, it may symbolize that your career is out of your hands) and made of the right materials, because it is the single thing that represents and fosters your power.
Make Yourself A Cup of Coffee
The first thing many people do when they get to the office or before they start work is going for a coffee. It gives them a much-needed energy, warms them up and just makes work a bit easier. Therefore, if you want to give yourself or your workers an extra motivation, invest in a quality Nespresso machine that will greet you with a fresh and tasty cup of coffee anytime you crave it. Coffee can strengthen your willpower and self-control, particularly when you’re exhausted. Making a big decision when you’re tired isn’t wise. Drinking coffee beforehand, however, may help you stand your ground and make better decisions. This is a good thing to keep in mind if you’ve had a busy day and still have important decisions to make.
Appropriate lighting for a peace of mind
Another extremely important aspect of a good Zen-inspired design is lighting. According to Feng Shui, the light in your office should be opulent, targeted and not too overwhelming. In essence, you want to have enough light to perform all the tasks needed, without the light hindering your vision when you’re looking around the office. Therefore, browse various electrical goods when furnishing your office, and find the ones that work best for you.
Office desk
If, on the other hand, you’re working in a big office space, there are not a lot of things you can do design-wise to boost your productivity, but there are some small alterations you can implement, mostly regarding your own office desk area. However, before you change anything, run the idea by your employer to see if it’s ok.
Bring in some liveliness with a potted plant
Potted plants are known to – indirectly – work wonders for employee well-being. Not only are they a Zen staple piece, but they’re also good for our health. Therefore, find a small potted plant that can thrive in your office conditions and make your work desk its new home.
Ground yourself with a small rug
As crazy as it may sound, a soft small rug placed underneath your chair can do wonders for your productivity. So, if you can, add a small rug under your work desk. According to Feng Shui, the Earth is the element that gives us energy, so choosing a small rug in earthy tones will definitely increase your energy levels, thus boosting your productivity.
Organize and declutter your environment
In Feng Shui, clutter is probably the biggest no-no, so make sure that everything on your desk is always well-organized. So, keep only the things you actually need to perform the task at hand on your desk and make sure that your desk is clutter-free at all times. Also, cleaning your desk every morning before you start working is another interesting trick that will boost your productivity, as this way, you’ll be literally wiping all of yesterday’s problems and negative energy and starting a new workday clean.
