Meet Kelly L Campbell, President The Holistic Option, Inc. in Nyack, NY
Kelly Campbell has created her dream job. Not once, but twice! At age 23, Campbell launched Liqui-Site Designs, Inc. (http://www.liqui-site.com ), an integrated creative firm that offers graphic design, website development, search engine optimization (SEO) and an unyielding desire to exceed client expectations. She started the business with $250.00 and reached $1M within five years. Now, with nearly twenty employees in NY and RI, Liqui-Site caters to start-ups and non-profits, as well as medium-sized businesses and international corporations. Prior to starting the company, Campbell served as Senior Web Designer and Art Director for an international e-learning firm. In 2006, Liqui-Site won the Forbes Enterprise Award; in 2007, the company picked up two Communicator Awards for print and web; and in 2008, they scored silver in the International Davey Awards for its work on TheHolisticOption.com.
A little background on TheHolisticOption.com: In 2007, Campbell realized the huge gap in vetted information concerning holistic medicine on the Internet. Searching for natural remedies yielded disparate results, with no real way to check a site’s overall credibility. So, she created what many call “the WebMD of natural health”, the premier online resource for alternative and integrative health, called TheHolisticOption.com (http://www.TheHolisticOption.com ). She secured $90K in seed money from family and friends, then another $175K in personal loans. Launched in April, 2008, TheHolisticOption.com garnered immediate attention with its national directory of holistic practitioners and integrative MDs (individually vetted by the company’s Advisory Board), featured articles, videos and blogs, discussion forums, natural products, and more – all at no cost to end users. Campbell even hosts the company’s weekly podcast series, Holistic Health & Wellness, one of the Top 50 shows in Alternative Health (iTunes). The company recently launched the Holistic Option Ensurance Program, or “HOEP”, to reduce out-of-pocket expenditures by consumers on natural therapies, such as acupuncture and massage therapy. With 20,000+ subscribers, the show and website are exploding amidst the growing demand for natural health care and environmental sustainability.
The unique hybrid business model allows for high site traffic by offering access to the content at no cost, while charging advertisers to promote their natural products and services, affordably, and to a niche demographic. Opportunities include banner advertising, article and e-newsletter sponsorship, dedicated podcast shows or audio commercials, and (coming soon) on the company’s iPhone app, called Holistic Med. Holistic practitioners can submit applications for inclusion in the online directory, which costs just $100 annually (or less, if they’re members of any of the professional associations that recognize TheHolisticOption.com).
Kelly shares, “Corporate America and I were oil and water, so I created the job that would give me both control and creativity. I love my role at Liqui-Site, and with TheHolisticOption.com, I was able to blend my professional expertise with my personal passion for alternative health and wellness. It’s so gratifying to hear from people who’ve connected with a vetted practitioner on our site, or who’ve incorporated a healthy or eco-friendly habit into their lives. The overall shift in consciousness is proving to be unstoppable.”
