Tell us about your business
Cyndi’s Light Work Designs, Coloring Your Canvas with Light and Purpose is a uniquely beautiful collection of keepsake treasures that can be used to blanket the canvas of t-shirts, mugs, canvas bags, mouse pads and more. My design portfolio includes Personalized Keepsakes for Families, Certificates for Children perfect for graduation or other accomplishments, Mother’s and Father’s Day Keepsakes that are similar to greeting cards, but are matted and bursting with beautiful colors.
My large collection of artwork also includes Personalized Birthday and one-of-a-kind Wedding Anniversary Keepsakes, buttons, banners and headers. I also have a wide array of Pre-made Inspirational Keepsakes to warm and grace the wall of any room in the home. I create designs for many occasions and I pour every once of my passion into every design that I make starting with the vision to fruition.
I enjoy creating inspiration for the spirit that connects to the soul and warms the heart, mind and body with light and purpose. I love to create designs that can be placed or used on t-shirts, mugs, canvas bags and more.
My target audience is primarily women, children and churches for the various holidays that are often celebrated throughout the year and for events that are held by churches in celebration of Women’s Day and more.
Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
Being a business owner simply means fulfillment for me and for my family. I love using my God-given gifts, talents, skills, wisdom and depth of knowledge to fulfill my dreams as I work everyday to my fullest potential to help prosper my business. I used to type and transcribe and from time-to-time I still do, but when I discovered the “Gift of Design”, it immediately became my passion. I have experienced complete satisfaction and a wealth and a sense of satisfaction just knowing that there are no limits placed on me in terms of being allowed to use what God has given and blessed me with. If I had to work for an employer, I would be given the opportunity to demonstrate nor display all that I am. I would be unlimited and I would be unhappy.
I became an entrepreneur because the gifts that live deep inside me needed to brought to light. I knew that there was a real need for inspiration in people’s lives and so I began to design various artwork using words to lift up and help mend hearts that may be broken forming clear messages that touch deep inside the soul. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom and then a work-at-home mom, I ventured into Magic Fingers Secretarial Services. I was typing and transcribing, but I knew that there was something missing. I wanted and needed something more. One day as I was typing, I took a much needed break and began designing coloring pages for children that grew into an amazing design business. Cyndi’s Light Work Designs was formed in September 2003.
What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
My darling husband, Bill, has been my greatest influence in my business because he has and continues to encourage me through his words and his love. Whenever I create a design, I share it with him and my children and he always says, “Cynt, you have to get your designs out there. Wow! I’m telling you, you have a real gift”. Every year since I’ve been in business my Bill has been selling my Mother’s Day Keepsakes to his co-workers who now request my keepsakes every year!
What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
My greatest professional accomplishment to date is when I was asked to make a design for a church’s ministry; Daughters of Deborah. The ministry leader loved the design so much that they over paid me by $200, but it wasn’t the money that makes this accomplishment special, it was because the pastor of the church liked it tremendously that he has requested to use my services!
What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
The best advice I have ever received in business that I would love to pass on is to use the gifts that God has given you, have all systems in place and stay encouraged through and with the knowledge you have been given.
What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?
The most effective marketing initiatives has been through using fliers and postcard campaigns as well as by word of mouth. I also use Facebook to help promote and grow my business. I have created attention-grabbing fliers that have proven to be the most effective for exposing, obtaining and growing my business.
What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? .
After all the years that I have been designing I have learned that I have had to work diligently, believing in my service/product and getting as much feedback as I possibly can from other people to help to understand my strengths and my weaknesses as I create each design. I have learned the importance of getting up every morning and going into my home office and starting my day just as I would if I worked outside of my home for an employer.
I have learned the significance of writing down all of my goals and using a time line and guide to achieve every single goal no matter how small or how large because if it pertains to my business, it is important and it is essential that I have everything in place in an effort to run my business as smooth as possible. For instance, I enjoy having my potential client questionnaire immediately available to me so if someone calls and asks about having a design made, I have the questions in front of me that I know are necessary to ask to ensure that they receive exactly what they envision. If they agree to let me create the beauty they have expressed, I also have the contract ready to amend to custom fit their need for the design. Being organized and demonstrating excellent customer service skills is also so very important to me. Knowing and understanding the importance of not wasting a second of my precious time is one of the most important aspects of my business.
Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.
Yes, I have a new project coming up for a Christian organization who is in need of a header for their website. I also just finished creating a t-shirt for an individual and I am elated about that as well.
What do you do for fun/relaxation?
For fun and relaxation I love to write real-life short stories and I enjoy writing poetry. I just published an e-book entitled “Rubies in the Garden”, An Everlasting Keepsake Treasure. I also love to listen to music. I’ve always loved music as a child and still do to this day.
What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
My number one business goal that I am working to accomplish is sharing more of my designs with millions of people by having them placed and sold in stores across the pond and around the globe.
You want to write a book on? how I can Help Moms Make Ends Meet, Help and Hope for Single Moms.
I’ve always had this need to help and serve other people. I have a small organization that helps single mothers feed their families, their children, their precious little babies, but I want to continue to help single mothers through many avenues and paths that will ensure a brighter future for them and their children which means an even brighter future for their children. My hope and my wish is provide computer courses to single mothers as well as writing courses and more.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes, I’d like to say that if you have a passion for something and you believe it is your gift and you want to grow your life using your gift, use it to your fullest potential and no matter how long it may take, don’t ever give up even if and when it seems like no one is listening to or hearing you because if you believe that it is your gift, you are going to prosper in ways you never thought possible. You’ll grow in your vision; not just monetarily, but in ways that will bring you happiness and joy like you’ve never known it before.
When I sit at my desk and I begin the process of making something breathtakingly magnificent, as told to me by my customers, I am in a state of euphoria and that is why I am able to create the designs that I create and you can do the same exact thing. All you have to do is connect with your gift and start using it/them.
