Wines and Foods this Season
by Wendy VanHatten
Looking for wine ideas to pair with some Christmas or Holiday foods? How about trying some of these? Many I’ve personally paired. Others have been given to me by friends who love food and wine!
With your appetizers…Chenin Blanc or Bubbly if they’re cheese related. Lower alcohol is a good way to start off the festivities. A little heavier appetizer might be best paired with a Rose Champagne.
If your main dish includes prime rib, try a Bordeaux or a dark California Cab. One friend serves roast goose and pairs it with a Burgundy. Sounds good. Maybe you have a nice, honey-glazed ham. If you want to cut through the sweetness, you could try a Zinfandel or a Lambrusco.
When it’s time for dessert, I like a dry Champagne. Others have suggested a Sauternes or Ice Wine. And, of course, there’s always Port.
Are you eating the Gingerbread House you made? If so, I’ve been told Bourbon goes realy well with it. Hmmm…not sure about this one.
