A Tribute to Mother Earth
“Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned
to you by your children” ~ Kenyan Proverb
The Spring Issue of WE Magazine for Women was inspired by many people and events. First of which is Earth Day, celebrated on April 22nd. It only seems right to honor Mother Earth during Spring, a time of renewal and hope and peace and love for nature. According to EarthDay.net “Earth Day Network is a driving force steering environmental awareness around the world. Through Earth Day Network, activists connect, interact, and have an impact on their communities, and create positive change in local, national, and global policies.” More than a billion people will be recognizing a day which, I believe we should celebrate every day of the week, 24/7/365!
A great big THANK YOU to Mary Clare Hunt of In Women We Trust, Cover Girl for our Tribute to Mother Earth. It was an honor to present Mary Clare Hunt to our readers, share her resources, her story and all the wonderful women she suggested WE interview for the tribute.
In fact, Mary has agreed to facilitate the Women’s Green Commerce Survey – Purses, Peers, Posts and the Power to Move Green Markets. We’re putting together a Two-Way Media Education program designed to educate your split personality – you as a business owner, you as a consumer and you as a “media” per se. Social Media and “Green” is here to stay. This program will keep you and your group up to speed on how to integrate your actions into business. When you participate your name will go into a drawing for a full page ad in an upcoming issue of WE magazine and you will also receive our list of more than 200 green resources we’ve put together just for you. This list consists of Information, places and things to help you achieve your green lifestyle goals (personally and professionally). Go to www.WomensGreenCommerce.com for more information.
Did you know that Natural products sales grew over 9% in the past year? That’s over $50 billion! In March we asked our readers to nominate “Five Innovative Green Products” to showcase for our Tribute to Mother Earth. Many readers suggested great products including those we regularly use and sometimes take for granted. Products like the bicycle, cotton, olive oil and flowers. Natural fiber ‘Jute’ was nominated by Ruma Dutt of India which you can see used at JuteSlippers.com, Maureen Whitehouse shared her new book Soul-full Eating which you can read more about in our WE Recommend section, and Ecobags to carry your groceries instead of using the plastic bags offered by the supermarkets was nominated.
Did you know that Shaklee has been producing natural cleaning products—everything from dryer sheets to stain removers—for more than 50 years?
And then there’s gDiapers – No landfill required. It is a staggering fact that 50 million disposable diapers enter the landfill every day, where they sit for up to 500 years!
And one of my favorites is Paporganics creator of stationery and gift wrap made from organic cotton, hemp and recycled fibers. Be sure and visit these sites and support those doing their part to Love the Earth.
Putting this issue together was a true labor of love. So many women (and a few good men) shared their experiences to help make this the best issue yet. Your support means a lot and helps us bring our readers important information and resources to help you create the ultimate sustainable lifestyle.
