Meet Ligia M. Houben, Life Transitions Consultant and Coach and Certified Grief Counselor. My Meaningful Life in Miami, Florida

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do professionally.
I started in this path of helping others as a certified grief counselor and certified thanatologist (specialized in death and dying). Then, I developed into Life Transitions Coach with the purpose to help people transform their transitions or losses and change their lives. I work with individuals, organizations and groups in seminar or workshop format.

What do you enjoy most about your profession and why did you choose it in the first place?
I love people and it is so fulfilling to know you can help another human being as they go through a painful situation and make a difference in their lives.

Tell us about the organizations your company supports and why?
My company supports all organizations that have to do with helping other like  The American Cancer Society.

What is the biggest risk you ever took professionally and/or the biggest obstacle you have overcome?
The biggest risk was to leave a corporate job and start my own practice. The biggest obstacle has been to motivate people talk about their losses…we live in a society that prefers to ignore them….but if we don’t acknowledge them, we may hurt ourselves even more. With this purpose in mind, I wrote the book in Spanish “Transforma tu perdida. Una antologia de fortaleza y esperanza.” The translation to English Transform your Loss. Your Guide to Strength and Hope, will be available in November of 2009.

From where do you draw inspiration? Who have been your role models, mentors, etc?
My biggest inspiration has been my dad. He died when I was 12 and I know he has been my role model and at the same time the motivation to bring this message of hope even as we face the greatest loss, which is the death of a loved one.

How is the current economic situation affecting your company/organization?
At some point it is reflected because I do private pay (in my practice), but if your clients find your service is important for their lives, you can always find a way to work with them.

What one thing would you like to learn this year?
Because I am involved in several projects….to be wiser in managing my time.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As a well known author and speaker in the area of Loss and Transformation.  Including  the area of Personal and Spiritual Growth.

What do you do for fun/relaxation/entertainment?
I love meditation,  Yoga, and exercise in general. My family for me is very important, so I  like to share quality time with them as well as with my friends.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Believe in yourself. Within you reside all the resources to live a life with meaning and purpose. Find what your passion is and….follow it.

Which, if any social networking sites do you belong to?
