The number of female entrepreneurs and business owners has increased dramatically in recent years, with over 12 million U.S. businesses currently owned by women. Although traditionally women mostly worked as teachers, nurses and secretaries, today females are making strides across all industries.

Take for instance the rapidly growing pet industry, which is expected to reach $96 billion this year. As the need for pet services and products grow, more females are stepping up in this booming industry to help lead the pack.

“The pet industry is growing each year for a number of reasons, including an increase of pet ownership, the humanization of pets and pet parents demanding premium products and higher quality food,” says Director of Nutrition and Wellness from Bow Wow Labs, Johnna Devereaux, “We are seeing a rise in women-led companies within this market because females have a great sense and understanding of the human-canine bond. We want to be part of creating services and products that will help pet families thrive.”

Numerous studies show that women-led companies are better at meeting job satisfaction needs than those led by men. A CNBC interview with ‘Shark Tank’ star Kevin O’Leary disclosed that he prefers to invest in companies helmed by women because they produce superior returns. According to a study conducted by Berlin Cameron, The Harris Poll and The Female Quotient, 50% of Americans say they’d prefer to work at a female-led company over a male-led company because they’re more purpose-driven and are more likely to offer equal pay.

In addition, for approximately 25 years Linda has been involved with various charities serving the disabled. Today, Linda finds great joy in managing all of the day to day activities at BWL, including financial, marketing, website development, product design/manufacturing, sales, fulfillment and customer service.

Johnna is a Clinical Pet Nutritionist and is passionate about her career in the pet industry. She works diligently to be a resource in providing pet parents with valuable information regarding the importance of holistic pet health and wellness. Today Johnna is proud to be the Director of Nutrition and Wellness for BWL, plus on their Board of Advisors. She’s also a small business owner for over a decade and is the founder of Fetch RI; a holistic pet boutique and supply retail store. Johnna has been invited to speak at various veterinary hospitals to discuss the benefits of proper nutrition for dogs and cats. She has also been a repeat presenter at Potters League University, teaching children and adults the benefits of feeding pets in a species-appropriate way.
