StartupNation.com, a leading business advice, resources and networking site for entrepreneurs, announces the start of its annual Leading Moms in Business Competition, honoring the top 100 mom-owned businesses in the United States. Now in its sixth year, StartupNation’s Leading Moms in Business Competition continues to garner national publicity for mom-owned businesses and the inspiring women behind them.

Women-owned businesses have a significant impact on the U.S. economy. According to American Express OPEN’s 2013 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, there are approximately 8.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States, including many mom-owned businesses, generating nearly $1.3 trillion in annual revenue. StartupNation’s Leading Moms in Business Competition is the only ranking of the top mom-run businesses in the country.

The 2014 Leading Moms in Business Competition winners will be determined by online voting and announced on May 5, 2014. The first place winner will be awarded a feature slot to promote her business on StartupNation Radio, while the top three contestants will each receive a complimentary Business Growth Consultation by the co-founders of StartupNation, Jeff and Rich Sloan. Prior winners have earned national publicity for their business, including featured coverage on high profile media outlets such as MSN, Bizjournals, ABC News, and others.

“Since 2009, we have had the pleasure of recognizing hundreds of mom-run businesses through the annual Leading Moms in Business Competition,” says Jeff Sloan. “Each year we aim to celebrate the most innovative and successful mom-owned businesses in the country, and are truly excited to discover this year’s contestants!”

Prior competition winner Nina Rodecker of Tasty Clouds claims, “Winning StartupNation’s Leading Moms in Business Competition did wonders for my business. Winning the competition helped me grow my revenue to the extent that I could not have imagined. The exposure I received would be invaluable to any startup business.”

April Marcial of CoverMyHeart.com, another prior winner, states, “After issuing a press release announcing our ranking, it opened doors that I couldn’t have imagined. My sales have tripled since last year’s competition and the projections this year are even better.”

“We applaud these women for the risks they have taken in starting their own company,” says Sloan. “To run a thriving business while also caring for a family is inspiring – and that’s why we at StartupNation are so passionate about this competition.”
