Meet Jill Jayne, MS, RD, President and Creative Director, Note To Health, LLC in Jersey City, NJ
Jill Jayne, MS, RD is a registered dietitian (RD) and accomplished musician, making her the country’s only Rockstar Nutritionist. She is the president and creative director of her company Note to Health, a media company specializing in interactive, age-appropriate productions that teach health through entertainment. Note to Health’s creations take shape as touring school assembly programs, concerts, educational music, music videos, and interactive workshops.
Under the Note to Health umbrella, Jill Jayne is the creator and lead performer of the interactive, live nutrition show for elementary school kids Jump with Jill that teaches nutrition education through entertainment. Jump with Jill is currently formatted as a touring live show, an audio CD, and a blog titled “On the Beat with the Rockstar Nutritionist”. Jump with Jill addresses an urgent need to connect with kids in a time when advertisements for high fat, high sugar foods and endless opportunities to choose the couch over physical activity are at an all-time high. Jill Jayne turns the media machine on its head to produce interactive media that gets kids engaged, moving and learning.
Since Jump with Jill’s inception three years ago, Jill has performed her show nearly 500 times for almost 70,000 kids. The soundtrack to the show, titled Get Me Goin’, debuted in October of 2008 at the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) sponsored by the American Dietetic Association. Here Jill performed for a standing-room-only group of dietetics professionals from around the world. Jill is the executive producer of Get Me Goin’.
Jill’s registered dietitian credentials and musical expertise make her a credible source of health information for kids, parents and educators. Kids love her because she’s a Rockstar Nutritionist; parents trust her because she is a registered dietitian. Jill received a master’s in nutrition education from Columbia University and a bachelor’s in nutrition and theater from Penn State University. She is the singer-songwriter for her rock band Sunset West, many of whose members were also featured on the Get Me Goin’ CD. The band has toured and recorded extensively in the mainstream music scene, and now regularly tours middle and high schools with their nutrition and media literacy show, I Will Not Be Bought, targeting middle and high school students.
Description of Business Model:
Note to Health earns profits from the live touring shows, Get Me Goin’ CD sales, and Jill’s speaking engagements at regional and national professional meetings. Jill also partners with healthy food companies and organizations who provide funds for low-income schools to get free Jump with Jill shows. Jill is in constant production with new tools for teachers, parents, and kids that are sure to make engaging health education a rite of childhood. Jill leverages her work in the media to draw attention to childhood obesity prevention.
Jill has been creating, producing, and performing with Note to Health for over three years. Before becoming a professional Rockstar Nutritionist, Jill was writer, producer and host of the nationally-syndicated, nationally-acclaimed children’s nutrition news program What’s in the News for PBS, DJ for Radio Disney, an off-Broadway actress, and a public school teacher. Blending her credentials with her art makes Jayne a competitive force in how kids learn to engage with their food and their bodies.
