"Meet Woman on the Move Deondra Morris - Handbag Designer"Deondra Morris (21)  Designer/Creative Director for Deondra Jeree, Inc. is a Woman on the Move

Tell us about how you chose your career/business and what your responsibilities include?
Growing up, I’ve always said I will have my own fashion brand/business and become this big well known designer, so choosing a career wasn’t hard because I knew just what I wanted and that’s exactly what I’m doing. For now, I do everything, designing and the business part, but once my business is well-established, I will only be doing the designing part and brother who has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management will take care of the business side.

Tell us about the company you work for or own?
Deondra Jereé, Inc. is a fashion label/brand that creates high end luxury pieces from the best material. My company is based in New York. My brand will not only be known for handbags but for high-end apparel, shoes, and accessories that’s to come in the near future.

What are some of the most fulfilling projects you have been involved with so far?
Trick or Treat for UNICEF, every year I raise money during Halloween to help save and improve children’s lives in other countries.

Are there any people in your field you would like to meet and/or work with and have not yet had the opportunity?
I would love to meet Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Betsey Johnson, June Ambrose, Marc Jacobs and work with Designers Michelle Smith, Donna Karan, Diane von Fürstenberg, Christian Siriano, Giorgio Armani, Kate Spade, and Tom Ford

What are some of your favorite ways to network?
Meet ups, Instagram, Twitter, Email and After parties (parties after fashion shows).

Do you have a mentor – if so how did you choose one another? If not, is this something you think would benefit your career and is there anyone you would like to have as a mentor?
No, I do not have a mentor and yes I think this is something that would benefit my career because I would have an expert to get advice from, someone who’s already where I’m trying to go. I would love to have June Ambrose as a mentor because she seems down-to-earth and positive, plus she’s good at what she does. Another person I would love to have as a mentor is Karl Lagerfeld – he’s a living legend.

What have you learned from your mentor? What do you hope to learn?
I hope to learn how to be fearless and take risks, stand out and make a difference in this industry.

What’s been the most surprising thing that has happened to you so far in your career?
Nothing really surprising, I’m just really excited about all the good feedback I’m getting about my first luxury handbag collection.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?
I just like to lounge around the house, watch television, and mingle with my family.

Any parting advice for someone who would like to follow in your footsteps?
My advice to some who would like to follow in my footsteps is to always put God first, never give up and you will succeed.
