Tell us about your business.
Sylvia is an entertainer and the first African American Female Impressionist in the history of this country.
Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place? Sylvia was the only one of her kind.At a time when very few female comics were heard of she braved the streets of Los Angeles and New York determined to make it work.
What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why? As an entertainer, Sylvia’s influences were Diana Ross and Tina Turner. The women are pioneers and never gave up.
What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date? She believes it would be a tie between touring with Whitney Houston in 23 cities or being the first Black Woman offered a job as an associate writer for Saturday Night Live OR having an exclusive contract with the great Red Foxx.
What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers? Work for yourself as hard as you would work in a job. Dedicate your time to you as much as you can. Results will follow.
What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business? Social Media/magazine articles.
What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years? Keep your customers/audience satisfied.
Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? Because entertaining is a different kind of business, using the internet for research is incredible. The more people you secure in your circulation means more popularity which results in more business.
Do you have any new projects coming up? Sylvia is in the process of producing a play entitled “There” which is taken from her book/autobiography “Almost There, Almost….The Many Faces of Sylvia Traymore Morrison.” The play focuses on what it was like for women in the 70’s. 80’s and 90’s as an up and coming comic. The stories include people she worked with including Muhammad Ali, Redd Foxx, Gladys Knight, Stephanie Mills, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston and many others. The basis of the story is struggle, determination and success!
What do you do for fun/relaxation? Walking and exploring new and unique places
What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year? As stated earlier, producing a stage play entitled “There” from the book “Almost There, Almost…The Many Faces of Sylvia Traymore Morrison.”
You want to write a book on: Sylvia is in the process of writing two additional books. The first of which is “Wings of the Untold.” It speaks of flight attendants from the early days and how being one today differs It also speaks of stories that would make jaws drop if the public knew some of what actually took place.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? Sylvia has paved the way for many female comics who are seeking a career in the field of entertainment. Encouraging and inspiring is one of her many traits she likes to instill in people on the rise!
