Her company, Coach Kat, Inc. has been in business for 13 years… and counting.
Tell us about your business.
I have over 17 years life coaching experience that began as internet consulting and training. I have been a mentor to thousands over the years, especially in helping women entrepreneurs balance the six areas of “body, brain, being, time, people and money,” around building a business. I have identified the areas in which entrepreneurs get in their own way and have developed strategies to help you get out of your own way with profound and powerful results.
I have coached Olympic Gold Medalists, best-selling authors, successful CEO’s, construction workers, nurses, website designers, university marketing directors, internet business gurus, real estate agents and investors, graphic artists, event planners, network marketers, stay at home Moms, and other successful coaches.
Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
Being a business owner has allowed me to run my business from my home on a very part time basis, allowing for the time freedom that so many desire in life. I have three sons and when my first two were very little, my oldest had been diagnosed with ADHD and I had a very difficult time keeping him in a daycare to go to a job. He simply needed one on one attention that daycares, even home daycares, could not manage or give to him. So, they would have him there for a few days to a few weeks and then ask me to not bring him anymore.
It was quite a concern to continue to get calls at work from his daycare telling me to come and pick him up because he was out of control and could not behave. This was from 2 years old and on through about 8 years old. I actually was let go from a couple of jobs because of the disruption my private family life had on a regular job. This actually required me to find something as quickly as I could to work from home.
That is when I discovered internet marketing coaching which allowed me to work from home around my son’s schedules. I quit my day job at the law firm and started coaching by phone for a company, officially starting in 2000. I had discovered my passion in helping others succeed.
Both of my sons deserved to have me home while growing up.
What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
My greatest influence in business has been Bob Adams, my accountant and spiritual mentor. He introduced me to the law of attraction and to chakras and reiki healing. He has been like a second Dad to me. From him I was exposed to so many spiritual mentors such as Deepak Chopra, Esther Hicks, Anthony Robbins and Rhonda Byrne. The accelerated growth from my first reiki healing that Bob conducted on me has launched me into learning more about the healing arts and about how the power of the mind influences our physical being.
What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
My greatest professional accomplishment has been the completion of my book, “SOS, Success Or Sabotage” that has been in the works for seven years, now. It was made available in all book stores as of April 5, 2013. The site, www.SuccessOrSabotage.com will be completed and launched within the next 2-4 weeks with an affiliate program and training materials for you to access and learn from. The social media pages are all developed and waiting for launch day. This has been even bigger than my first published book, “Getting Traffic To Come To You,” which is an internet blogging instructional guide that came out at the end of 2011.
What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
The best advice is advice that I give to all my clients and that is to learn something new every day and journal it…every day for the rest of your life. Yes, the rest of your life. This is one of the primary differences between the employee mindset and the entrepreneurial mindset, which I go into in detail in my book.
What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?
The most effective marketing plan I have used is a program I developed and published as “Getting Traffic To Come To You,” in which I show you how to get 100-500+ unique visitors a day to your blog in the next 29 days, guaranteed…from nothing. This book was based on an informal case study I conducted with over 200 clients on 6 weekly group coaching calls. We collaborated on several different strategies on the calls and at the end of six weeks, I collected what worked and what did not work for my clients, tested the theories on a few different websites of my own and came up with a process of weekly and daily activity that you can do to achieve this kind of traffic, and at no additional marketing or advertising costs. This process has proven to work and has survived beyond Google’s panda and penguin algorithm changes. This is because with this process you consistenty create content and share that content through channels online.
What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
The one thing I have learned is to focus. I used to want to work on three or four different projects at once and when one of them would start making money, I would then promise myself that I would focus on the project that started making money. What I have found is this does not work. What works is to focus on your passion or dream and NOTHING ELSE. Maintain your focus and say no to everything else that does not align with your primary goal that you are focused on. As women, it can be very difficult to say no to some of thos things, but it is essential for your success.
Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?
The two primary tools and skills I have learned and find they are essential to obtaining the entrepreneurial mindset are a daily journal and a written time management tool. I recently have started using a DayTimer and I have a 3-ring binder for my journal. When a client enrolls in my one-on-one or group coaching programs, I share with them a Business Journal Guide and written modules that guide them into how to achieve the entrepreneurial mindset. Even if you have a level of the entrepreneurial mindset, there are always higher levels to achieve within this mindset. It can often mean the difference between making $100K vs. making $1mil.
Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.
Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I just released my new book, “SOS, Success Or Sabotage” on amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com, as well as being available in all bookstores online and off. It has been seven years in the making and I discuss the 4 “itty” words and the doubts you can harbor around these 4 “itty ” words. These doubts are the core to self sabotage and how we get in our own way. Self sabotage is the main reason we are unable to harness to law of attraction and the more profound Law of Vibrational TheoryTM.
What do you do for fun/relaxation?
I love to read non-fiction personal development books, spiritual development books and audios, as well as play computer games with my sons. It seems to be one of the best ways to connect with older teenage boys.
What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
My number one business goal is to create some joint ventures around my book and get it to the NY Times best-seller list. I also plan on obtaining more speaking engagements and bookings to help as many women entrepreneurs as I possibly can.
