Meet Hyacinth Tucker, Agency Owner and License Allstate Insurance Agent ~ The Tucker Agency

               Hyacinth Tucker (34)

1. Tell us about how you chose your career/business and what your responsibilities include?
First of all, I love networking. Networking gives me an opportunity to meet different people, learn about different industries and truly cultivate relationships. And after presenting my pastor (who is an Insurance Agency owner) with this fact and explaining that I need a change from my then position, he thought that I should definitely look into owning and running my own insurance agency. So I went home and researched around a little bit, and found that becoming an agency owner with Allstate would offer me the flexibility that I needed to run my household and take care of my children.

As the owner and licensed agent with the Tucker Agency, my duties consist of supervising my amazing staff, brainstorming and implementing marketing and promotional campaigns, and of course interacting with my clients assuring them every day that they are indeed in good hands.

2. Tell us about the company you work for or own?
Allstate Insurance is one of the most recognizable brands, especially in the insurance field. We specialize in Auto, homeowners, renters, landlord and business insurance policies, but we pride ourselves on the quality of customer service that we offer every client. Here at the Tucker Agency, we live by Allstate’s vision of realizing our full potential, and even though we are a small agency, we exceed and overcome everyday obstacles with style and grace.
3. What are some of the most fulfilling projects you have been involved with so far (include your non-profit/volunteer work here)?
I have always been an adamant community service advocate and in the past couple of months, the Tucker agency has started a campaign to donate a percentage of our sales to local non-profit organizations in the Baltimore/Washington metro area. We are excited to see what non-profits we are able to help with our exclusive campaign as we are always ready to help in any way that we can.

4. Are there any people in your field you would like to meet and/or work with and have not yet had the opportunity?
Her name is Laura Harris. She is an insurance agency who like me owns her own agency, but what she has accomplished with her agency is nothing short of amazing. What she has accomplished in the last three to four years, some agencies fail to accomplish after seven. And what I admire about her is her willingness to share. She has such a giving spirit, and when she will bend over backwards to help someone in need, and that is simple amazing. Of all the people I know of, of all the people I have heard of, I would love to the opportunity to meet Laura Harris.

5. What are some of your favorite ways to network?
In addition to being an active soror in Zeta Phi Beta, I am Vice President of the Crofton/Bowie Chapter of Business Network International (BNI) and I am a board member on a number of non profit organizations. As I mentioned before, I love networking and with my involvement in these organizations, I gained the invaluable skill of being able to converse and enjoy the company of any one!

6. Do you have a mentor – if so how did you choose one another? If not, is this something you think would benefit your career and is there anyone you would like to have as a mentor?
I have not been blessed with a mentor as of yet, but I would love to have Laura Harris as a mentor as she is a trailblazer in the insurance industry, in my opinion.

8. What’s been the most surprising thing that has happened to you so far in your career?
Well, I opened the Tucker Agency three months after having my daughter. So in addition to jumping into a new industry and finding new clients, I had a three month old baby to take of. For myself, I just knew that I was wonderwoman and creating this new life for myself would be a breeze. What was surprising to me was that it was not. I missed the time I spent with my daughter and I realized that I needed that. Thank God for the flexibility that Allstate offers (in addition to my time management skills), I was able to rearrange some things with my schedule and my employees, and now my daughter and my Agency have just celebrated their two year birthdays.

9. What do you do for fun/relaxation?
I love traveling with my husband and two children. And besides my love for community service, on a day off, you will probably catch me in the den reading. It’s so relaxing to just kick back and read a good book.

10. Any parting advice for someone who would like to follow in your footsteps?
For someone who is looking into opening up their own Insurance agency and following in my footsteps, I would want them to know that trials and tribulations will come, but faith will carry you through and past any situation, any circumstance, and  any stumbling block that you can imagine. Stay true to yourself and your morals, and with diligence returns success.
