As I look back on 2011 and wonder what I could have done to make it better, I remember the many good things that happened and people who crossed my path, among them, YOU.
2011 has been a particularly challenging year for many. And in those challenges opportunities have arisen. Opportunities to learn from some of the greatest thought-leaders today. Opportunities to collaborate with incredibly talented women. Opportunities to meet new women (and a few good men) and expand our own circles of influence. The gifts of life, watching those be born and those grow up. Opportunities to renew our faith in humanity and more importantly in God. These opportunities have filled my soul with gladness and my heart with an unending river of gratitude.
One of the many sayings my mother had about people that has been my own mantra is this “If you remember that either EVERYBODY in this world is important or No One is, you will get along just fine.” Every person we meet is important. No matter what part you have played in my life or I in yours, remember we are all a part of the bigger picture of life.
Thank you for being one of those “important” people.
As you go about your days ahead and participate in the joys of the season, remember to dream BIG because it is in the BIG dreams that BIG things happen. To paraphrase a quote by Tully Knoles: “The greatest thing about ‘wo’man is ‘her’ ability to transcend ‘her’self, ‘her’ ancestry, and ‘her’ environment and to become what ‘she” dreams of being.”
May you look back on 2011 with gratitude for all the experiences you shared with others and the people who came into your life even for only a moment. And as you look forward to 2012 with an open mind and open heart, a passion for achieving your BIG dreams, may you continue to Pay it Forward. People need you and your special talents and gifts now more than ever. And be sure to stop and smell the roses along the way.
