“It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.” So says Albert Einstein.
Now if that were true, our world would not be in the state of disarray its in right now. We truly would be better off, wouldn’t you agree? Sadly though, it seems as though we have bred a society of takers, not givers. What are we teaching our children nowadays and; what kind of future is waiting for the next generation?
It really makes a lot of sense to give back to a community that supports you as a business owner. You can grow your sphere of influence, create a positive brand presence, generate warm leads, reach your niche market and affirm a solid position for your company within the community. It really does make sense.
Try and find a charity you can relate to and represents your core values as a company. There are so many worthy organizations needing our help like Breast Cancer Awareness, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, or the American Heart Association. Let’s not forget the hometown organizations that work with our children like a youth club, athletic league, after-school program, or an organization like Big Brothers Big Sisters. Thousands of individuals are still out of work across the nation and in desperate need. Sponsoring programs for your church, a homeless shelter, or food pantry is another way to give aid.
Building a solid relationship within your community will help your business grow tenfold PLUS, give you a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment you can only receive from giving of yourself unselfishly.
By helping others, you will create goodwill with your clients, showcase your company’s true values, and definitely attract potential customers who support and respect your efforts.
Remember, the point here is not to make money. Sometimes this can be an indirect result. Creating relationships by providing your time, sponsoring a program, or giving a monetary donation will make your business a hub for the community, supporting and nurturing the people around it. It will help you build a stronger culture within your company, enjoy better relationships with your customers, and ultimately make you more successful.
