Interview with Jaylyn Bergner, President and CEO, Begin Communications

Tell us about your business.
Begin Communications is a guerilla public relations and marketing company specializing in bolstering the images of small and medium-sized businesses. In addition to our PR and marketing methodologies, we recently began using a combination of neuro-linguistic programming and hypnotic writing to raise not only our clients’ position in the market place, but the effectiveness of their communication.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
I love running my own company because it gives me a sense of total accountability, freedom, and the ability to be creative. Initially, I became a business owner because I prefer answering to myself.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
Richard Branson. He has an unwavering spirit of positivity and continues to evolve personally and in business.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
I’m most proud of single-handedly starting my own company.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
You can learn from everyone, whether it’s the head of an organization or the janitor. Good ideas are everywhere.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
Persistence is key.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you succeed?
The best thing I’ve done for my business has been working with business coach Ashley Lewis, owner and CEO of Strategic Transformations. She’s been an irreplaceable element of my organization’s growth. Having a professional analyze your business from an outside perspective and make suggestions is priceless information.

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
Expansion. I’d like to augment my staff significantly, to include writing, financial, and sales teams.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Make a positive attitude a key element of your business.
