Meet the Ageless Small Business Owner Jackie Silver

Interview with Jackie Silver, Founder and President, AgingBackwards, LLC

Tell us about your business.
Everyone wants to stay young – now you’ve got some help. I’m Jackie Silver and I’m Aging Backwards. I’m 50 and I still get asked for I.D. to buy wine! I have tons of secrets, tips and shortcuts for looking and feeling young that I share in my book, on television, on the radio, in the newspaper, online and in person. My target audience is mostly women and, perhaps surprisingly, younger women. Aging Backwards appeals to many women, but I’ve found in the three years since founding the company that women from 29 – 39 are the most enthusiastic about it.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, Aging Backwards, LLC is my third business. We’ll save the other two for the next interview, lol. As a creative type, I’m more of an “outside the box” thinker, which doesn’t always play well in the corporate environment.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
My greatest influences in business have been all the people in my life who have helped me along the way, from my family, friends, producers, editors, P.R. people…it’s their love and support that has kept me going for the past three years.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
I feel so blessed to have accomplished so much in three short years with the help of many, many people. I recently released my first book, Aging Backwards: Secrets to Staying Young, available on Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and AgingBackwards.com. Being a regular guest on the syndicated TV show Daytime, doing the Beauty School Wednesday radio show on Mix 100.7 Nancy & Chris Mornings in Tampa Bay and writing a weekly column for The Tampa Tribune are also accomplishments I’m especially proud of and grateful for.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?
The best business advice I can pass on to readers is to just keep on going. If you’re passionate about your topic and you know it’s what you were put on this planet to do, don’t give up no matter what. Perseverance pays off!

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?
I’ve learned that everything doesn’t always go as planned! Being flexible is the best way I’ve found to succeed.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you succeed?
I have had so much help along the way, it would be tough to list all the resources and tools here. If any readers have specific questions, I’d be happy to answer them. Just email me: jackie@agingbackwards.com

What is the Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?
My number one plan for my business over the next year is to assemble an excellent “team,” move to New York and continue to work tirelessly to spread the Aging Backwards message to an even wider audience.

Some really excellent lessons here for all of us that own businesses and work with business owners.

Perseverance is one of my favorites. It is so easy to become discouraged or distracted as a small business. And perseverance is vital. Business owners with passion can succeed.

Building a team or advisory group can also be helpful to business owners. Two different things: one a team that you can work with either through outsourced professionals or staff. An advisory group or mastermind group of interested peers or professionals that can be a support, a sounding board and much more.

Seeing women succeed in business is inspiring. Thanks for sharing this story. Congratulations on such great success in such a short time.
