In today’s chaotic world, it’s easy for women to feel burned out, beaten down, and depleted. According to Vickie Milazzo, though, taking time to strategically renew yourself will go a long way toward helping you to reclaim the excitement and energy that will enable you to thrive instead of just survive.

You’re a modern woman…which means you’re barely surviving. You work yourself to the bone for ever-diminishing returns, thanks to the rising cost of everything from gas to food to health insurance. Meanwhile, you serve as cook, maid, shrink, tutor, and handyman at home. When life’s little “emergencies” crop up—a broken water heater, a toothache, a parent-teacher conference to discuss your son’s recent homework boycott—well, those land on your plate, too. No wonder you feel you’re one permission slip away from a complete breakdown!

And here’s the worst part: lately, the bar is so low you find yourself celebrating the mere fact that you survived another day. To be energized and fulfilled—well, that’s so far at the top of your hierarchy of needs that you can’t even see it for the cloud cover.

Women should not accept this state of stressed-out existence and call it living, insists Vickie Milazzo. You can lead a successful life and cultivate a wellspring of energy that will renew your mind, body, and soul every day—but first you’ve got to give yourself a break.

“Today’s woman has taken on an extreme life crammed to overflowing with commitments and responsibility,” observes Milazzo, author of the new book Wicked Success Is Inside Every Woman (Wiley, 2011, ISBN: 978-1-1181-0052-3, $21.95, WickedSuccess.com). “It’s not possible to stretch yourself to the breaking point every day and not break.

“You wouldn’t expect a battery to keep going forever without recharging it, and you shouldn’t expect it of yourself either,” she adds. “Women need to learn to revitalize their minds, bodies, emotions, and spirits frequently, so that they’ll have abundant energy whenever they need it.”

Milazzo suggests that women try to look objectively at their lives and routines, as though they were happening to a good friend. What advice would you give her?

“You’d probably tell this ‘friend’ to slow down, take a few deep breaths, and spend a few minutes doing something enjoyable before the next day and its demands come crashing in,” Milazzo guesses. “You know that this advice is sound, too…so listen.”

Milazzo speaks from experience. After working (overtime) for six years as a registered nurse, in 1982 she faced the reality that she was unsatisfied with her career, financially strapped, and burned out across the board.

“I realized that if I wanted to thrive instead of just survive, the first thing I needed to do was cultivate a fulfilling relationship with myself,” she recalls. “Yes, I know that it might seem impossible to take even one moment out of your overscheduled life, but I promise you that it can be done. Too often, our own behaviors and habits sabotage us and prevent us from taking the renewal steps we need for restoration, causing us to slip further and further into the desperate state we’re trying to escape.”

The fact is, every woman needs to renew and refuel her body, feelings, mind, and spirit on a regular basis, so that she can reflect on what’s important and maintain perspective and equilibrium. And with habitual rejuvenation, promises Milazzo, you’ll be able to complete your daily tasks while having the energy to pursue your big goals and passions…and still have some vigor left over for great sex!

Read on for eight of Milazzo’s tried-and-true suggestions to help you renew yourself in the midst of your manic life:

Plan for renewal. With days, weeks, and months that are packed full of responsibility, you can’t exactly head to the spa, to the nearest mountain for a hike, or to wherever you go to relax and reflect on a moment’s notice. (Heck, you can’t even paint your own toenails in the bathroom without being interrupted!) So if you want to renew your energy, you’re going to have to schedule time for relaxation just as systematically as you would plan to complete a long-term project at work. If you keep waiting for the right moment to kick back and smell the roses, it’ll never happen because life will get in the way.

“Remember, what gets scheduled gets done,” Milazzo shares. “If renewal time is really a priority for you, it will be on your calendar. Period. So you need to make sure that no one—including you—overbooks your time. Over the years, I have learned to schedule everything from vacations to massages to daily quiet time and exercise in my planner. I have also learned that what you’re striving for shouldn’t be a balanced day, but a balanced life. For example, if I know I’m about to take a totally unplugged vacation, I’m willing to work some 14-hour days beforehand. The key is to feel that you are in control of your life instead of the other way around.”

Renew physically. While many of us would like to think that frequent trips through the drive-through don’t have that much of an ill effect, the truth is that these empty calories have a negative impact on our short- and long-term health. The same goes for poor sleep and insufficient exercise. Look honestly at your eating, fitness, and resting habits. Are they helping or hurting? If it’s the latter, you need to know that it’s not only your body that’s affected; your productivity, energy, creativity, and motivation will also take a hit.

“Physical health is necessary for any kind of success, because increased energy opens up all kinds of doors,” Milazzo asserts. “There’s no need to make a ton of drastic changes all at once, but over time you do need to shoot for a balanced, nutritious diet, regular exercise, and—of course!—the chance to relax with a massage, a facial, or a soak in the tub. No matter how smart you are or how much potential you have, you’ll never get anywhere if your body is sluggish and running on empty.”

Renew emotionally. These days there’s certainly more than enough to worry about: healthcare, cutbacks at work, your dwindling bank account, the price of gas…the list goes on. It’s easy to spend all of your energy fretting and contingency planning. Sooner or later, though, you’ll hit emotional rock bottom (if you haven’t already), and you’ll go through life bitter, put-upon, and exhausted. Plus, if you don’t renew emotionally, you’re likely to overreact or underreact to various situations, which will only multiply the number of things you have to fret about! To avoid this fate, you need to allow your emotions to recover and be uplifted on a regular basis.

“If you barrel through life with an unhealthy sense of urgency, you will never enjoy anything,” says Milazzo. “You must learn to enjoy the moment and cultivate calm, not always be pushing. Whether you plan a vacation, have a cup of tea, or go on a walk, think of being kind to yourself as a necessity, not a luxury. Allow yourself to get away from it all from time to time so that when you re-enter the fray, you’ll have freshly buoyed emotions to sustain you.”

Renew spiritually. All other types of renewal will be temporary fixes unless you have a deep-seated sense of serenity within you to draw upon. Spiritual discipline is definitely a journey, not a destination, but its benefits are peace, calm, and enlightenment. Figure out what works for you, whether it’s meditation, prayer, study, service, or something else, and incorporate it into your routine. Just a few “time-out” moments at the beginning and end of each day can make a significant impact.

“Spiritual renewal is important for me, because I don’t want to accumulate worldly success and still wonder if ‘this’ is it,” Milazzo explains. “Spiritual renewal looks different for everyone, but I think an important component of it is to quiet down and reflect on who you want to be and what is really important. Doing this will give you lasting perspective and will help you to realize and remember just how precious a gift life is.”

Renew mentally. Most of us never stop to consider how often we feed our minds less-than-healthy fuel. Whether it’s reality TV, bad romance novels, talk radio, or Farmville, the activities we pursue in our downtime often don’t renew our energy (and may even deplete it). No, you don’t have to read scholarly articles and watch educational documentaries every day, but it is important to throw some thought-provoking activities into the mix. Consider visiting a museum, gallery, or arboretum that you normally pass by, or try your hand at something creative like painting or writing.

“What you feed your mind influences your thoughts, attitude, and energy,” points out Milazzo. “You need mental energy to be creative and to make good decisions. You don’t have to give up ‘junk’ entirely—in fact, I find that reading a frivolous book every now and then is kind of like indulging in a buttery bag of popcorn—but make sure that you’re also watching, reading, and experiencing new, challenging, and inspirational things. And the best part is, you don’t have to carve any more free time out of your day. Just imagine what you could learn and accomplish in the time it takes to watch a sitcom or two!”

Celebrate to intensify renewal. Think about it: life without celebration would be one long stream of to-do lists, thankless tasks, and mindless drudgery. When you accomplish a goal or pass a milestone—big or small—it’s smart to take a little time to celebrate your success. Even thirty seconds of allowing joy to bubble up inside you can act as a great pick-me-up and keep burnout at bay.

“You need to experience satisfaction when you reach your objectives, so make a habit of celebrating each success,” Milazzo reiterates. “When you acknowledge the little things, the big goals also seem more attainable. For example, just being considered for a promotion is worthy of self-congratulations. Even if things don’t work out as you hoped they would, you can still celebrate your willingness to step out into the unknown.”

Renew with the people you love. Have you ever noticed that we often work ourselves to the bone to benefit the people we love…and end up rarely spending time with them as a result? No, you can’t blow off all work and responsibilities, but make sure that close relationships stay at the top of your priority list. The fact is, since life and love don’t happen in a vacuum, surrounding yourself with people you love guarantees you more positive experiences.

“When you cultivate strong relationships of all kinds, you will create memories, and you will not have to face anything alone,” Milazzo says. “Plus, women in particular are wired to connect, so when you schedule date nights and girls’ nights, take part in traditions, and create memories, you’ll be more fulfilled. Also, responsibilities, tough times, and problems that need to be overcome don’t seem nearly as overwhelming when you have a team of friends and loved ones on your side!”

Renew by giving back. The phrase “giving back” often conjures up the mental image of a wealthy philanthropist writing sizeable checks to various charities and organizations. No wonder many of us don’t consider ourselves to be givers—we’re more focused on making sure that our own accounts aren’t overdrawn! However, giving doesn’t have to mean cracking open your wallet—time, mentoring others, or giving spiritual or emotional support are all just as valuable.

“Giving is a gratifying and renewing act because it disconnects you from yourself and your own problems, creating fresh perspective,” Milazzo asserts. “I’ve found, for example, that when I extend encouragement—even if it’s just a quick ‘Thinking about you!’ text message, I receive that same gift back abundantly in my own life. When you live selflessly, you will attract genuine relationships, unconditional support, and lasting respect…and you’ll also leave behind a positive legacy that you can be proud of.”

“Ultimately, taking the time to renew yourself will give you the energy and capacity to enjoy the life you were blessed with—even in the midst of tough times,” Milazzo concludes. “Remember that it’s okay, and even encouraged, to take care of yourself. While periodic and strategic renewal won’t get rid of all your problems, it will lighten your load and help you to remain solid in the midst of the chaos.”

Nell Merlino, CEO of the non-profit organization Count Me In (which helps mentor and grow female-owned businesses) says women have to stop waiting for the world to change, and instead step out of line and make it happen. She has 5 key tips.

1. Start with the end in mind: Write down or cut out pictures of what you ultimately see for your business. The more specific you can be, the more likely you will be able to communicate your vision to others so they can help you get there.

2. Set specific, time-sensitive goals; write them down and post them where you can see them: Further hone your unique definition of success by determining the actual numbers, dates, dollar amounts or other specific markers you want to achieve. This way, you’ll be able to mark incremental successes and celebrate when you’ve reached your ultimate goal. Vague goals produce vague results.

3. Expect and listen to resistance: Whenever you try to exchange and grow, you will undoubtedly experience resistance, fear and criticism from other people and from yourself. Anticipate this, listen to the concerns and have a strategy to incorporate the valid ones into your plans.

4. Get more opinions than your own: Confidence is a huge asset, but it doesn’t replace the need to test your ideas and plans with other people. There is great value in seeking advice from people with more experience, less experience, different backgrounds, and various dispositions. Trust your instincts and do some market research.

5. See your life as part of a bigger picture: You are rarely the only one in the world who wants the life you want or has the dreams you have. Access the wider world of people with your interests and goals and use this network for support, encouragement and an occasional kick in the pants.

Count Me In is behind the movement, Make Mine a Million $ Business. The ultimate goal is to get 1000 women business owners to the million dollar mark. Women entrepreneur have a chance to take part in Philadelphia September 25-26. Women can win prizes including PR, professional coaching, access to financing, and more.

Tell us about your business.

CRT/tanaka is an award-winning, national PR and marketing firm, serving clients in the consumer, corporate, health and digital space.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place? Being a business owner means that you have the exciting opportunity to realize (more of) your vision than would be possible by working for someone else.

I often refer to myself as an “accidental entrepreneur” because the only reason I started my first agency, PT&Co., was to avoid having to fire four employees when our PR subsidiary at advertising giant Chiat/Day lost its biggest account. I knew that if I told the head of subsidiary operations at Chiat/Day that we just lost our biggest client, he would instruct me to terminate the people working on that account immediately. I delayed communicating this news to him, trying to figure out a way NOT to have to terminate four valuable employees who would be critical to replacing that lost revenue. The only thing I could think of was to lead a management buyback involving 11 key co-workers, spin off our PR subsidiary and start an independent agency, which is what we did in 1990 to form PT&Co., an agency owned by the 12 (and soon after 13) co-founders.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

Definitely my mother. She was always supportive of me, teaching me to “work hard, persevere and do my very best always.” She also ingrained in me from an early age that it was important “to share your cookies and toys.” That’s why when I led the management buyback to form my first agency, PT&Co., I felt it was only fair that everyone involved in this risky move, should be an “owner” of the business.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Building a PR agency with 12 other co-founders that was recognized as the “#1 Most Creative PR Agency” in America AND also the “#2 Best Place to Work” among all PR agencies.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

“Share your cookies and toys.”

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

In my new agency, CRT/tanaka, which I co-founded in 2005 when we sold New York City-based PT&Co. to Richmond-based Carter Ryley Thomas, to form CRT/tanaka, we have built an agency based on the brand vision and brand promise of whatcanbe. For us, whatcanbe means that whatever we envision we can create. We’re only limited by our imagination. And, creating whatcanbe simply means envisioning a bigger, brighter, better future whether it’s for the agency, our clients and the community-at-large and then creating a plan of action to achieve that vision.

We’ve launched a number of initiatives to promote the concept of whatcanbe, including:

• fostering a whatcanbe workplace culture (instead of a whatCAN’Tbe culture);

• introducing an annual whatcanbe Awards program recognizing 3 employees for creating a bigger, brighter, better future for the agency, our clients and the community www.crt-tanaka.com (recent winners are featured on the home page);

• appointing every employee a whatcanbe Ambassador (this is on everyone’s business card);

• and institutionalizing our business process via a proprietary, three-phase planning rocess (“what” phase, “can” phase and “be” phase), etc.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

That the “golden rule” is as important in business as it is in your personal life. People are people. They just want to be treated with respect and courtesy and, if you do, it makes working together so much easier.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?

I’ve found it valuable for learning and networking to join business and professional organizations particularly women’s organizations. As a communications professional, I’ve found great value in organizations such as:

• New York Women in Communications www.nywici.org

• Women’s Forum New York www.wfny.org

• Asian Women in Business www.awib.org

• Center for Asian Pacific American Women www.apawomen.org

• Public Relations Society of America www.prsa.org

• Council of PR Firms www.prfirms.org

Do you have any new projects coming up?

Our agency just created a campaign entitled, “Dance 4 Your Life,” to promote the health benefits of dance in partnership with “So You Think You Can Dance” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe’s Dizzy Feet Foundation and the Larry King Cardiac Foundation. And we have just embarked on a campaign to help our Girl Scouts of the USA client celebrate their centennial anniversary next year.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

Ballroom dancing (I’m a competitive ballroom dancer), tennis, Pilates, Zumba

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

Helping grow my agency to $20MM in the next few years.

You want to write a book on? . I have just written a book entitled, “Becoming Ginger Rogers…How Ballroom Dancing Made Me a Happier Woman, Better Partner and Smarter CEO,” which is being published by BenBella Books and available Sept. 6, 2011.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Yes, to pursue their joy and to share that joy with others. Life is all too brief so we mustn’t waste our precious time on earth.

What’s the best way for our readers to connect with you?

Meet KACY ANDREWS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of BIGFOOT ENTERTAINMENT

Kacy Andrews (right) on Location in Thailand

Tell us about your company.

Bigfoot Entertainment provides content to consumers of all ages and walks of life. We distribute feature films theatrically as well as on DVD and VOD. We also have TV shows, documentaries as well as educational and health/fitness content. And by the end of this year, we will have 5 International Academy of Film and Television schools throughout the world – Los Angeles, Florida (2 schools), Hong Kong and Cebu, Philippines.

Please tell us what running an entertainment company means to you and why you became the CEO in the first place?

I’m not the owner of Bigfoot, but I did write the initial business plan and have run the company since its inception. I’ve always been a doer and making things happen. It comes naturally to me.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

Michael Gleissner, the owner of Bigfoot, has been my mentor these past 9 years. First off, he’s given me a great opportunity to accomplish so much at this company. But he’s also taught me so many valuable lessons over the years. For example, rigid cost saving measures, out of the box thinking, a risk taking mindset and high expectations are all included in a formula that has led Michael to great success. I’ve definitely noticed myself using this formula in my own business practices.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Launching a film school and $25 million film studio in a foreign country. Opening a business is tough enough in one’s own country, but to do it overseas adds so many more layers of obstacles, challenges and frustrations.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

You learn more from your mistakes and failures than you do your successes. Believe me – I’ve done lots of learning! And dress for success. Not only do others perceive you as a successful person, but it gives YOU more confidence. (Although I do not put this into practice as often as I should because I love my jeans).

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

By far, word of mouth is the number one way we gain new students at our film school. But the internet has been one of the most effective tools for us to get the word out about our films and the schools.

Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.

DEEP GOLD 3D. It is the first feature film we shot completely at our studios in Asia. It recently premiered in our newly acquired Bigfoot Crest Theater in Westwood as well as playing in theaters throughout the US. It was an exciting milestone for us and it will be coming out on DVD at the end of the summer.

Just after DEEP GOLD, we premiered MIDNIGHT MOVIE: THE KILLER CUT at the Crest. We shot this film in LA and it released on DVD in June.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I love to play with my 2 year old son, travel and enjoy nice dinners and wine with my husband. Most recently, I took up boxing. It is a lot of fun and a great way to relieve stress.

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

In the next year, Bigfoot will fully launch our distribution division with the release of 18 films/TV/documentaries into the marketplace. We will also be opening our film schools in both Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

You want to write a book on: The Art of Hiring.

I would like to write a book about the “art of hiring.” I think that smart hiring is the key to success, but it’s very challenging. Over the years, I’ve hired so many people who I thought would be great, they were great on paper, references checked out, interviewed well and then, they turn out to be duds. And visa versa. Some that I “took a chance on” completely surprised me. Hiring is very tricky and an underrated skill.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Love what you do so that work doesn’t feel like work. Work should just be a part of your life and not “work.” If you are a clock watcher, you are in the wrong job. Go find something you are passionate about and love doing. It’s the key to happiness and success.

What’s the best way for our readers to connect with you?

I’m on LinkedIn. Visit: www.bigfoot.com for more information

Tell us about your business

Inkandescent Public Relations is a full-service PR, marketing, publishing, and design firm that helps entrepreneurs develop and execute their communications strategies so they get the visibility they need to keep their companies growing.

Branding: To be successful, an organization must look its best. So we begin the PR process by creating eye-catching websites, logos, and marketing materials. Our photographer takes beautiful professional portraits of your team. Our video director showcases the good work you are doing on film, and we also post it on our YouTube channel, www.inkandescenttv.com.

PR and Marketing Campaigns: To get the word out about your organization to clients and reporters, our team of journalists creates attention-getting press releases and helps you write monthly e-newsletters to showcase your business insights. You’ll also become a columnist in our magazine—Be Inkandescent: The ezine for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs—which circulates monthly to more than 14,000 subscribers and 6,000-plus social media contacts.

In the News: Our clients have recently been quoted in Inc. magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Washington Post, The Washington Business Journal, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Magazine, Washingtonian, CNN Money, The CBS Early Show, NBC News, News Channel 8, News Channel 9, Federal News Radio, and more.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

As the child of two entrepreneurs, I grew up watching my parents run their own small businesses. So it was only natural for me to become a business reporter after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. After working for several newspapers and magazines, including The Miami Herald and New Miami Business Magazine, I started my own freelance writing business. Since 1993 have written for The Washington Post, USA Today, and dozens of national magazines including Costco’s, where I write book reviews.

My first job in the PR business was as the director of communications for the City of Fairfax Schools. We created an award-winning newsletter for them, and they continue to be one of my clients. When I was doing PR for a futurist think tank in Washington, DC, I got them onto the CBS Early Show three times, and mentions in nearly every national business magazine that they dreamed of being quoted in. After that, I figured that I could do for lots of small businesses what I had accomplished for these two organizations. In 2008, Inkandescent Public Relations was born.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

There have been so many entrepreneurs who have shaped how I approach my firm—from the business leaders that I have written about, to those who have shown the right (and sometimes wrong) way to do things. In fact, from these observations I launched a website for the book I’m working on, “Truly Amazing Women Who Are Changing the World,” www.trulyamazingwomen.com. So far, I have profiled about 150 women, and plan on keeping that ball rolling for years to come. My hope is that their success stories will also inspire other women—and men, too.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Launching Be Inkandescent Magazine in January 2010. While I love helping my clients develop, or redevelop, their websites, improve their branding, and get them in the news, my passion is journalism. So with the help of my design director and web developer, I started an online magazine for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs, www.beinkandescent.com.

Each month, our 20 columnists—all of whom pay to be part of the publication—write articles from the point of view of their industry and expertise on the theme of the month. In June, for instance, we featured humorist Dave Barry and his brother Sam for “The Funny Issue.” Each article centered on an aspect of humor in the workplace. In July, our theme will be “Think Big,” and our Entrepreneurs of the Month are the head coach and GM of the professional women’s basketball team, The Washington Mystics.

In the last year, we have gotten 2 million hits on the magazine, and our subscriber database has more than 16,000 email addresses. We’re pretty excited about that.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

In the top of our magazine website, www.beinkandescent.com, there is a box that shows a new quote every time you refresh the page. These are words of wisdom from famous entrepreneurs, philosophers, and other smart souls, and I love this section of the magazine because when I’m feeling down or confused, I’ll watch the slideshow of ideas as they rotate on my computer screen, and after reading just a few, I will start to feel better. Here are three of my favorites.

“Treat the attainment of happiness in the same way an entrepreneur would approach building a business—with a vision, plan, goals, and a systematic approach.” – Ted Leonsis, former AOL exec, owner of the Washington Capitals, and author of “The Business of Happiness”

“The gem cannot be polished without friction; nor man perfected without trials.” – Chinese proverb

“The important thing is not being afraid to take a chance. The greatest failure is to not try.” – Debbi Fields, Mrs. Fields Cookies

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

Showing up! I admit there are days when I feel like I actually live INSIDE my computer, because we manage and maintain all of our client’s websites and work with reporters daily to get them in the news. In addition, creating a monthly magazine and writing a book also take tons of time.

But I have found that the best use of my time is often to attend networking events, participate as a panelist at conferences, and buy tables at conferences because it enables me to meet entrepreneurs, learn about what they are looking for from PR and marketing, and not only sell our services but find great companies to write about for the magazine.

In fact, this revelation got me thinking that the best way to grow Inkandescent PR is to create a networking site that lists events in cities up and down the East Coast, and also profiles entrepreneurs and event hosts, and offers subscribers the opportunity to post office and apartment rentals and jobs. On July 1, be on lookout for our new service, Inkandescent Networking!

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

I hold onto three leadership principles:

• Be flexible—I may not always have the solution, but as long as I am are working to solve a problem, I am on the right track.

• Be open—to new ideas and change.

• Never, never, never give up. Trite? Perhaps. But Winston Churchill knew a thing or two about leadership, and I am happy to embrace his lesson.

One lesson I am still struggling to learn is “hire slow, fire fast.” As a journalist, I have worked long and hard to develop strong relationships. As a business owner, I tend to hire those I trust. But it is rarely a good idea to hire friends. As The Inkandescent Group grows, I am finding that it is mission-critical to advertise jobs, interview potential workers, and have a contract outlining job duties and expectations.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I do yoga for at least 20 minutes every day, and get a reflexology foot massage once a month. Most evenings I watch a movie or old TV show on Netflix with my two kids and my husband. At the moment, we are addicted to “24.” Jack Bauer is my new favorite superhero.

What is the Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

In July, my company will launch Inkandescent Networking, a website that will feature the events and businesses in 8 east coast cities: Annapolis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. For free, business owners and professionals can be listed in our Networking Directory, which will be sorted alphabetically, by city, and by industry.

In 2008, I began writing “Truly Amazing Women Who Are Changing the World,” and launched a website where I have been posting profiles of the incredible women I meet, www.trulyamazingwomen.com.

My goal is to profile 100 women in each of the eight cities where I’m launching Inkandescent Networking, and create a book for each location. We’ll celebrate with a giant event where all the women can meet each other, their beautiful portraits can be exhibited, and they can inspire others to be Truly Amazing Women—and Truly Amazing Men, too!

“Learning breeds tolerance which sets the paradigm for interacting with people of all cultures in the business world. Making money shouldn’t be prioritized before learning about the world, philosophy, history, gender studies, etc.” - Sasha Brookner, Owner/Publicist at Helio Public Relations

Tell us about your business.

We are a full service boutique PR firm that specializes in securing clientele visibility within the mediums of TV, Print, Radio and Internet. Our target audience is vast; domestic and international as we work a gamut of genres from fashion, music, film, poetry, art and dance. Our clients have been featured in an infinite array of outlets ranging from ABC’s Good Morning America to Oprah at Home Magazine.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

Business owners have the luxury of being able to control their own movements with much more fluidity than an employee. I can be innovative and creative when it comes to ideas without being forced to run them by an authoritative figure for approval. An owner’s work and success pays off directly and it’s liberating if you can sustain your lifestyle. I came from a long line of female entrepreneurs so it was somewhat hereditary. My mother had her own business her entire life. I saw the freedom she had and her standard of living. I felt it would be disrespectful to the women who came before me if I didn’t at least make an attempt to become self-sufficient. Additionally I’ve always had a problem with male authority and I felt my concepts were revised, augmented or limited under other people’s umbrellas. Most importantly I was often forced to work with clients that I didn’t feel an alignment.

My goal in business was to find an occupational path that felt worthwhile but also where I could obtain leisure. The cost of leisure is expensive but that was very important to me (and my sanity).

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

I’m actually predominately inspired by my clients; their artistry in whatever form that takes. I don’t have a particular role model in the field of business per se but have taken bits and pieces from a vast array of executives and journalists that I’ve interacted with over the past decade. I get inspired by the billboard slogan writers of the world and other marketing gurus who take a more think tank-esque approach to sales and promotion. Unfortunately, most of my peers in the PR game often have a tendency to just act as news brokers, simply disseminating information without putting an artistic thinking spin on it. I appreciate ingenuity.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Taking underground grassroots talent and securing them press in unexpected mainstream outlets like French Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Elle, Jay Leno, Oprah, etc. Providing them with marketing tools and campaigns they normally would never have received due to lack of major budgets. On the flipside, we’ve worked with multi-platinum artists and the well-known celebs but I love working with the underdogs, it’s more challenging to strategically implement inventive PR campaigns then working with a major name and simply checking your voicemail to coordinate photo shoots. I wanted to be a tactician, not a secretary. My accomplishments are attached to striving in the face of resistance and how I learned to circumvent those barriers. I love developing stories, which is somewhat of an anomaly for publicists as that’s often left in the hands of journalists. So when I look at our client’s press over the years I see a reflection of our ideas whether it was helping Goapele compose a blog about the Oscar Grant verdict, a feature on Katt Williams in relation to his foster care children or just helping to depict a more accurate image and perception of African dance…we helped shape and give life to these narratives.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

Make sure you receive a liberal arts college education before venturing into the work world. Don’t rush. Learning breeds tolerance which sets the paradigm for interacting with people of all cultures in the business world. Making money shouldn’t be prioritized before learning about the world, philosophy, history, gender studies, etc. After school has taught you “how to think” then figure out what makes you inimitable or why you may be somewhat of an aberration from your peers in the same industry. Capitalize on your differences, forgive yourself for mistakes, think laterally not linearly and look at the world not just thru your own eyes but try to gauge it through the eyes and vantage point of others. If you need something from an individual assess them first before you approach them with requests, figure out what they might be interested in hearing and then tailor, it will prove to have that much more efficacy.

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

The majority of our clientele we receive are via word of mouth; you have to keep your company name reputable. It may sound rudimentary or old-fashioned but just staying sincere and producing quality results, that’s what sells a company for the long-term, not advertisements. We keep our Website updated and connect with reps and new clients via Facebook, Linkedin, etc.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

You have to be cognizant of whether the relationships you have are long-term and genuine or ephemeral and artificial. In this business some of the people you think are in your corner will stick around simply based on your client roster, and may disappear when they believe you don’t have what they need any longer. It’s a real awakening. Also sometimes it’s intimidating in my field where indie PR firms pop up like Starbucks (often without necessary qualifications) and these publicists are willing to work for half of what you charge one can get exasperated like how can I compete with such cheap mediocrity? But you have to also realize ultimately the execs not doing their jobs have no longevity. I’ve always felt it was better to have only a few clients and no turnover rate then a gigantic artist roster that changes week to week.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?

I subscribe and use companies like MediaBistro, PR Web, iContact, Mastheads.org, etc. to help stay abreast of the latest editors/journalists, disseminate press releases, build templates, one-sheets, etc. They’ve helped me tremendously with staying connected and building presentation. Also staying in tune with editorial calendars and media kits so you’re aware of issue themes when pitching placement. If you’re working with a recording vocalist and the magazine is currently working on their “Relationship Issue” you may want to hold off on you’re pitch if the subsequent month will be their “Music Issue.” We also connect with great journalists, photographers and stylists, it’s important to have these people on your team when creating quality visual and written presentation.

Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.

We just started working with Lira, a South African singer signed to Sony Music whose having huge success over there and is about to make her debut in the U.S. We work with celebrity fitness trainer Mark Jenkins and multi-platinum hip-hop producer Drumma Boy. We just finished campaigns for a couple independent female soul vocalists including Goapele and Conya Doss as well as two afro-punk singers, Tamar-kali out of Brooklyn and Nikki Lynette out of Chicago. Last year we handled PR for KRS One’s “Stop the Violence Campaign” as well as his book “The Gospel of Hip-Hop.” Just finished a campaign with Barbados reggae artist Rayvon, and working with Thurzday of the Los Angeles rap duo U-N-I who has a unique themed album and documentary coming up called L.A. Riot, a concept project inspired by the 1992 Rodney King riots as well as recent North African uprisings. One of the most inspiring projects we’ve had the opportunity to work was I.S.I.S (Instituting Science in the Schools), a non-profit in conjunction with NASA, Ankh Marketing and Mos Def, working to make science, nature, math and astronomy cool in the urban school system.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I take Senegalese and Guinean dance classes in Los Angeles, that’s about the only exercise I find time in my schedule to get. I read a lot; everyone from Gore Vidal and Clarissa Estes to Plato. Funny enough I find Wikipedia very relaxing, I literally just sit there fascinated, clicking on link after link but then before I know it 4 hours goes by so I have to be vigilant because I get sidetracked from work.

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

To continue working with really interesting and inspiring clients. Honestly PR is just an ongoing motif of the same job but with different people, I don’t expect a huge paradigm shift anytime soon. I would like to branch out and work with more international singers and authors. I’ve never worked with a heavy metal artist so I think that would be kinda cool. I want our client list to remain as diversified as possible.

You want to write a book on ”the effect various religious organizations have had on women throughout antiquity.” I just wrote a blog about Feminism in Islam. But truthfully I don’t ever foresee myself having enough time to actually follow through with it. Writing outside of a press release is a luxury.

Moss Adams LLP was named one of the nation’s best firms for women accountants for a second consecutive year by the Accounting MOVE Project in its annual study. With 20 offices in five Western states, Moss Adams was recognized for the effectiveness of Forum_W, the firm’s effort to attract, retain, develop and advance women within the organization.

The Accounting MOVE Project is managed by Wilson-Taylor Associates Inc., a specialist in measuring the advancement of women in business. Firms were ranked on the range, depth and success of their workplace cultures and programs that are proven to remove barriers to women’s success, especially at midlevel and above. This year’s study specifically examined how women millennials are shaping the future of public accounting.

The study commended Moss Adams for raising retention rates of women across nearly every segment in the firm and for its higher-than-industry-average share of women partners — currently at 22 percent. The firm was also credited with setting transparency standards in how it measured and reported on the status of women.

“It’s a privilege to be recognized in this study,” said Tammy Young, managing director of human resources at Moss Adams. “Even in a tough economy the firm has maintained its focus on Forum_W, and it continues to gain momentum with a commitment from leadership and a robust business process that keeps our efforts on track.”

Career coaching is one of the most successful tools Moss Adams uses to retain and advance women to the next level of their careers. These relationships have proved particularly important in providing women with a consistent message about their performance and future with the firm. Career coaching becomes even more critical for midlevel women as they begin to look at the next step in their careers.

Overall key findings of the Accounting MOVE Project include:

•	Male millennials expect women to be business leaders, and women millennials expect male peers to be equitably included in all development and work-life programs.

•	Women are making incremental gains at top levels as they bring in new clients through innovative business development programs.

•	Firms that publicly communicate a commitment to women build credibility with clients, employees and potential recruits.

•	Women expect to gain partner-track skills more quickly at regional and local firms.

The 2011 list of Best Accounting Firms for Women is drawn from 25 firms that participated in the study. The MOVE methodology focused on four factors — money, opportunity, vital work-life support and entrepreneurship — known to advance women in the workplace. Study sponsors include the American Society of Women Accountants and the American Women’s Society of Certified Public Accountants, two leading professional organizations dedicated to advancing women in public accounting.

About Moss Adams LLP: Founded in 1913, Moss Adams is the 11th largest accounting and consulting firm headquartered in the United States and the largest headquartered in the West. The firm has 20 locations in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and New Mexico, with approximately 230 partners and 1,500 staff.

Flucas, Owner/Accounting Professional of tmf Accounting Services

Tell us about your business.

Primary services include bookkeeping, income tax preparation, and payroll processing. We cater to novice business owners, entrepreneurs, and investors just like your readers. We keep our clients financials records in good health, while they focus on what matters most – Building their businesses.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

Being a business owners means having independence to work with a diverse group of professionals. The opportunity to selectively choose business owners who are passionate about their venture and sharp enough to hire an expert. I became an entrepreneur due to the dot.com bust of 2001. I was working as a Staff Accountant for a dot.com who lost their funding. We were managing the financials for numerous start-ups. After receiving my pink slip and lots of sleepless nights. I came to this conclusion – there must be small business owners who need a bookkeeper, but can not afford a full-time person. So I sought out business who needed a “Part-Time Bookkeeper”.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

Madam CJ Walker she was one of the 1st self-made millionaires. I admire her because she gave herself a start. When others told her she would not amount to anything she proved them wrong and designed a line of hair products and instruments which are still used today.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Getting through those initial three years of business. I struggled even took on a seasonal job at UPS, but I was determined to make a career for myself. A high percentage of businesses fail in the first two of inception. Great service will survive in any economy.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

Be truthful. Clients do not like surprises, however they do appreciate honesty.

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

Investing in signage and advertising. Keep your messages short and sweet.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

Show interest in your clients and prospects. Survey your clients get a clear idea of what they like and dislike. You don’t want to send them chocolates and they are allergic to them.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? If yes, please describe.

At times I need to send large files or secure files and I use www.yousendit.com . For posting free classified ads I use www.craigslist.org and to create surveys I use www.surveymonkey.com

Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.

I am working on a tax workshop to assist novice business owners on what and what is not deductible for their business.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I love to travel, visiting exotic places, playing tennis, and sipping orange flavored teas.

What is the Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

To coach Bookkeepers on how to deal with clients and run a successful practice.

You want to write a book on … The Dynamics of Networking. Networking is very important in business and life in general. I am a connector and would enjoying sharing this with others.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Get Support – Network – Join your local Chamber – Be Active

Meet Women in Business, Dr. Kim Bloomer, Co-Founder/President of the American Council of Animal Naturopathy

Tell us about your business

The purpose of our council is to provide education and examinations for certification as well as continuing education that reflects and upholds the highest professional standards of practice for animal naturopaths. To that end, the examinations are available to natural animal health consultants and practitioners. In addition ACAN is a front-runner in providing affordable, high quality distance learning education courses in animal naturopathy and holistic/natural health care.

Animal naturopathy courses have become popular today among those seeking a better understanding of natural health for their companion animals as well as natural animal care professionals looking for a more comprehensive education and certification. Our courses prepare and qualify members/students to take the board certification examination to become certified in that field of study as well as being a prerequisite and qualification for doctorate level courses at Kingdom College of Natural Health.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

It means the liberty to work, live and share my passion. I became an entrepreneur out of necessity because I was not content to work at a job for someone else, not fulfilling my life’s purpose. I collected a paycheck at at times more than I’ve made as an entrepreneur, but the determining factor for me was to live my life on purpose with passion. Anything less would be the equivalent of watching a cut rose die, rather than watching a rose bush in full bloom!

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

I would say both of my grandmothers. My maternal grandmother never worked a traditional job during my life. She ran her own cotton candy stand from her home when I was little and if we wanted to eat any we had to help her! She also worked our annual state fair with her own food stand. My paternal grandmother ran her own restaurants. She told me she did not want to be a secretary being chased around the office by a boss but since she wasn’t educated she didn’t know what to do. The man who loaned her the money to start her first restaurant asked her what she knew how to do. She said, “I know how to cook and well”. So that’s what she did and her business thrived! She paid back the loan in one year. She subsequently owned six more restaurants in the New Mexico area at one time. Both of my grandmothers ran their businesses during a time when women did not own and run businesses as the norm like today.

Both encouraged me to pursue my dreams. My paternal grandmother actually told me to never be content working for someone else, and supporting their dreams instead of my own.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

I’d say working towards and receiving my degrees. I have a bachelor’s in holistic nutrition (human health), a doctor of naturopathy in human health, and my doctor of veterinary naturopathy. The next greatest professional accomplishment was facing the daunting task (to me and my business partner) of organizing and instituting this council. It wasn’t something we sought, it sought us and we just stepped up and ran with it….well sometimes we have crawled and even back pedaled, but we knew once we went forward there was no turning back. Sink or swim and we’re used to being salmon!

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

Years ago I was going to a local gym. And the times of day I always went – either in the VERY early morning or at noon – the business people were always the ones there at those times. The movers and shakers. I stood in awe of their desire to just work and yet fit in time to keep themselves in shape as well. At any rate there was one guy who owned his own “Gung Fu” school. He was different – he stood out from the crowd. He was an African American man who wore a wig. But he sure did look fit and I liked him. He was honest and straight forward and something about him set him apart from the herd or pack . We became friends and one day while doing our workouts I asked him how he got started in his business. He said he just did it. I said, “Well could you elaborate on the HOW?” And he said very matter-of-factly, “Just do it.” I’ve never forgotten that. He was right! If you have a desire, a passion then the best thing you can do is just do it! Nike got that right.

This business isn’t the first one I’d owned and operated. In fact right now I have two I am running. If I had thought too hard and long about all the “what to dos” before launching I’d never have done either. So my friend’s simple answer was the best piece of advice I believe I’ve been given and so that is the advice I am giving. No fear, just do it!

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

Without a doubt it has been aligning and working out partnerships with other like-minded businesses, especially those who have the same philosophy. We are each filling a different need and niche so rather than being competition, we are collaborators. The competition isn’t something I think too much about. I often admire them and want to model some of what they’re doing but rather than frustrate me they inspire me to raise the bar and continue going forward.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

Build relationships. There is an old saying that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. I don’t push my business at others. I share my viewpoints, feelings about animals and SOME of my knowledge (grin), but I listen to and read what others are sharing and learning. One of the things that is taught in natural animal care is rather than train animals, one is encouraged to build relationships with them. By doing that we build trust so the animal will want to work with you. People are the same way.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? .

I’m a DIY sort of person, so I read a lot. I started blogging before the average person even knew what a blog was – in 2004. And most certainly the animal and natural health world had not caught on yet. So I look for innovative tools to get my message and work out in as viral a way as possible. Of course social networking is the big thing these days also. I don’t use any tools per se, I just keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities to partner with and network with like-minded people who have the same interest and goals in helping animals and the people who love them.

Do you have any new projects coming up? If so, please tell us about it.

Our ongoing project is to keep growing our school. I’d like to see our school become approved for continuing education by a New Mexico educational organization. That is one project and milestone we hope to accomplish!

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I love to be outdoors (which I don’t get to be as often as I’d like) and work in the garden, breathe the fresh air and just watch the wildlife around me. They teach me much. I love to read too as I’ve always been an avid reader. I’m not much of a social butterfly although at one time that’s all I was! My husband and I like to get together with a couple of friends, have dinner, and just TALK. People don’t talk to each other anymore like they used so that’s what we like to do. But of course my favorite thing is to hang out with animals.

Cookouts in the summer are one of my favorite things to do!

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

To grow our educational program – which is something we’re already working on. We have enlisted the help of those we consider the best in their area of expertise in natural animal care. My hope is that by this time next year we’ll have a very diverse and unique offering of certificate courses along with certification testing made available.

You want to write a book on … my dog AND also one on animal naturopathy.

I’ve already co-authored a book on natural dog care with a homeopathic veterinarian back in 2006, Whole Health for Happy Dogs. And my second book is Animals Taught Me That which was published in December of 2009. It is my personal memoir of the important life lessons I’ve learned through the love and companionship of animals.

Our beloved dog, Shadrach, recently passed away on April 5, 2011. Because he is the reason I went headlong into animal naturopathy, I think writing a book about him is something I need to do as much as want to do. I’m planning on turning his blog, http://www.Bark-N-Blog.com into a series of short books with the best of the best on certain topics. I’ve been asked by the readers though to continue blogging there in “first person” rather than “first dog” until such a time as a canine successor can take up the mantle where Shadrach left off.

My business partner and colleague, Dr. Jeannie Thomason, has been writing a book on the basics of animal naturopathy and hopefully one day she’ll get it finished and published! But the book I’d like to write is on the philosophy of animal naturopathy. A wise holistic veterinarian told us this year that without the philosophy all one is learning is the mechanics – which leaves a lot of room for error which can then cause harm. So over the past couple of years I’ve been collecting wise sayings and information on animal naturopathy I’ve learned to one day take it all and put into a book on.

That’s what we now focus on, on our weekly internet radio show – animal naturopathy philosophy. I LOVE it!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Don’t listen to tiny frogs and also be sure to share your stories. There is a quote I use in the introduction of my book, Animals Taught Me That ,that says, “Give people a fact or an idea and you enlighten their minds; tell them a story and you touch their souls.” ~A Hasidic Proverb.

So let me tell you the story of the tiny frogs.

Once upon a time there was a whole town of tiny frogs. This particular day there was going to be a competition. All the town gathered to watch the competition. The tiny frogs that were in the competition all were eager and ready to get going. The challenge was to climb to the top of what was to them a high building. No one thought it could be done, it was just too hard. But nonetheless the competitors lined up ready to at least try and give it a go.

The whistle blew and up the tiny frogs went! Before long one after the other started falling back, it was just too hard. They could hear all the other tiny frogs below yelling things such as “stop, come back, it’s too high, it’s too hard”. Eventually all but one tiny frog had dropped out of this seemingly impossible task of climbing the building. One little frog never looked back and made it all the way to the top.

Later when he was interviewed, he was asked how come he could make but none of the others could. And he said, “What’s that you say? I can’t hear you, I’m deaf.”

The moral of the story is to not listen to all the tiny frogs around you that say it can’t be done.

What’s the best way for our readers to connect with you?

Tell us about your business?

Swipes inc is the minority/women owned company that produces Swipes Lovin Wipes ®, are an all natural, biodegradable, compostable, dispersible, and flushable personal hygiene wipes that are, free of alcohol, chlorine, and dyes, made of 98% renewable resources and are intended for adults to freshen up before and after intimate moments. Because it is enhanced with only aloe and vitamin E and are also hypo-allergenic, they are safe and soft for even the most sensitive places.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

Before I started Swipes Inc, with my partner, Vera, I had the intention of starting medical school. Although, I was excited about continuing my education, I felt as though there was something more that I wanted to do. Now that Swipes Inc is running on all cylinders, I have the freedom to work with people I want, get involved in events and charities I care about, and take pride in knowing that I am offering an eco friendly product that is priced reasonably and therefore accessible to more people.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

My inspiration was my mother, who after working 17 years for someone else, decided to open her own Physical Therapy office, she has never been happier because she finally gets to treat patients with personal care and attention. The greatest influence was my sister, she is an environmentalist and guided me in all aspects Green.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

From a business stand point it has definitely been: overcoming the hurdles placed in front of us by large companies, but slowly and surely they have seen the value and opened their doors.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

Get advice from as many different channels, don’t accept the word of one person as the final answer. Everyone you meet has words of wisdom, but ultimately your gut instinct will make the best decision.

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

Apart from the social media, the most effective initiatives we have taken have been to get involved in local and non-profit organizations. By providing product samples to people at these types of events, we get the product directly in the hands of the consumer and we get to support a cause. Great for branding and all around feel good experience.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

Ask questions. No matter how good you are at your business, there is no possible way you can be the expert in all aspects of your business. Nobody is going to know or love your business more than you. But don’t be afraid to know your limitations, people are always willing to help, especially in their area of expertise. It gives them a chance to shine, helps your business, and facilitates in better decision making

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?

I believe this depends on the area of your business. If, for example you are an eco company, get involved in eco groups, communities, events, etc. If you are a baby product, get involved with mommies. And ask them what they want. If you have a great idea, but don’t know how to get it out there, nobody will know you exist.

Do you have any new projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)?

We just celebrated out official Grand Opening Party, as members of certain communities, we reached many people and by hosting the event at our location, giving away samples, we made sales, new customers, and were even interviewed by the local media. In addition, after months of chasing, piles of paperwork, and endless emails we have just been welcomed into a large distribution company. Very exciting.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

Living in Florida, I definitely take advantage of the things around me. I love to go for a run outside with my Jack Russell, “Ocean.” To cool off in the heat I am an avid scuba diver, and I love to go fishing and cook what I catch. To relax (and so much more) I enjoy Hot Vinyasa Yoga.

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year?

To make Swipes a household name.

You want to write a book on: Cooking what you catch-recipes for the kitchen and for life, learning how to take advantage of your resources, whether it be food ingredients or life experiences

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

I just published a Children’s book, but it was just for fun.

It is called the Adventures of the Chinchilla and the Gorilla:
